Some e-books sell, some don’t. Although the success of an e-book largely depends on the level of advertising done to promote it, the topic of the e-book also plays a big role. Some topics just generate much more sales than others. If you want to write a successful e-book, you need to choose to write about a topic that’s in demand. Here are some marketable topics you can write about:

1.) How-to manuals — E-books that give step-by-step instructions for achieving goals that are usually deemed difficult to reach or for performing tasks that are hard to understand easily become bestsellers. Technical topics usually fall under this category. The best approach is simplifying the processes so that even newbies to the topic can understand what you’re writing about. Your aim is to educate people in such a way that after they read your e-book, they’ll have significant understanding of its topic.

2.) Fiction — Science fiction, romance novels, and suspense thrillers/mysteries are popular genres of fiction within the online publishing industry. If you have a talent for writing fiction, you may find yourself a comfortable niche within this genre. It’s much harder to break into the fiction market of traditional publishing than it is into the flourishing e-book industry.

3.) Tips — E-books offering helpful tips are almost like how-to manuals with a small difference. Chronological steps are not necessary because this type of e-book is about compiling helpful tips for easy reference. The best topics that fall under this format are those that have confused people for ages such as how to lose excess weight for good, how to understand the opposite sex, and how to earn money online. Give doable tips that can be applied easily to everyday lives. People are not interested in broad and vague suggestions. They want concrete and practical information.
