The Popularity Of Podcasting
Feeding the need for audio and video content of all types, podcasting is an increasingly popular way for people on the go to get their music, news, talk show content and information. No longer do we have to listen to the same songs a dozen times on the train commute to work, there is a new world of content out there to compliment our habits. From professional and amatuer news shows to brand new bands showcasing their songs, there is a huge world of content. As of last year, the demand for video podcasting known as video blogging or vlogging was quickly growing. It reminds me of thousands of tiny radio and TV stations broadcasting on the Internet. Listen to your favorite shows, when and where you want. Podcasting can be thought of as a marriage between blogs and Mp3’s, but there is more to it.
Anyone can start their own podcast with a computer, a three dollar microphone, and a connection to the Internet. There are podcasts in many different languages from all over the world. Most are by amatuers, and that is what makes it so much fun. Podcasting is generally distinguised from streaming content, by the subscription delivery of the podcasts. iTunes is the application that runs on the iPod, and it is even compatible with the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. It allows users to manage and organize their files, by creating play lists, burning disks, downloading new content, moving files to other devices and much more.
Of course, you don’t have to an iPod or other MP3 player to listen or watch. You can just listen or watch with your own desktop or notebook computer. Generally, podcasting occurs when video or audio is distributed on the Internet using various technologies such as RSS.
it stands for Really Simple Sydication. Another type of distribution, Atom syndication, consists of another type of formant, but is similar to the technology of RSS. In video blogging, some of the video casts can be rather large, in the range of 50 to 100 megabytes.
Another related benefit of podcasting is that written content can be delivered to your desktop. Downloading the RSS software (there are various types and levels of programs) will also allow the sites to come to you, saving the time of combing through the internet to find articles that interest you. The initial RSS software was written by Dave Winer about six years ago, numerous software developers are given credit with the creation of podcasting. From business, tech, and science news to trivial but creative observations and gossip by college coeds, the amount of content is growing. Everyday more people discovering music videos on the go, girl bands pushing their latest musical creations and news from the main stream media; podcasting is quickly taking an important place on the stage of the Internet.
